The New Years Kiss

I really do enjoy the idea of celebrating on New Years Eve. Saying goodbye to one year and cheering in a whole new one with a clean slate. Besides partying with dear friends, I look forward to the special New Years Kiss when there is someone I would like to share that moment with. (Maybe because I like PDA so much. : )

Sometimes I forget that men can be just as sentimental as women. I guess I always assumed that the New Years Kiss was mainly important to women. Surprisingly, this is not the case. I have found many articles and videos of men talking about how important the kiss is to them as well.

One guy posted a video on Youtube looking for that someone who would kiss him at midnight. As well as a male blogger gave some advice of how to position yourself at a party so you do get that kiss when the clock strikes twelve. He spoke about the possible targets: The Love Interest, The Admirer, The Bystander, The Beautiful Stranger.

So what happens if you can't be in two places at once? That was my story this year. Me and a friend biked to a fabulous house party in Venice, just one block from the beach. Three hot men live in this spanish style home, and are known for their parties. I was fortunate enough to get an invite from a girlfriend who knows them well. Of course, anyone that knows me knows I am a planner. This was all decided weeks ago...

When I was making plans, I had no idea if Right Now Guy would still be in the picture. So I shouldn't hold off from planning anything, right? You see, my situation with Right Now Guy may be considered quite progressive for most. No expectations. No labels. Even though we've been hanging out for over 5 months. Not sure what you would call it. I struggle with that. Are we "dating" but not exclusive? When people ask me if I'm seeing someone, I tend to say..."sort of, I guess you could say I'm hangin' out with someone. not sure what you'd call it. But I do date others as well." This is my answer, seriously....

I'm surprised, but I actually do like our set-up for the most part. It's refreshing since there is freedom for each of us. We are just doing our best to live in the moment and enjoy each other. But when it comes time for those special holidays...things can get a little confusing of what to do. So far since we've known each other we have had his birthday, my birthday, Thanksgiving, Christmas and now New Years. That's alot of unknowns.

So two days before New Years Eve he asks me what I'm doing for that night. I thought "Suck! I new this would happen!" I'm envisioning myself at a party and it strikes midnight and I'm not with the guy I wish I would be kissing.

There really was no dilemma about whether to hang with my best bud or be with the guy I wanted to make out with, because I already made a commitment. And I am one that is very loyal to my friends. But of course I thought "I want my cake and eat it to". (Who the hell came up with that analogy anyway, who doesn't want to eat their own cake!)

(Wikipedia says: "The statement is a popular English idiomatic proverb or figure of speech. It may indicate having or wanting more than one can handle or deserve, or trying to have two incompatible things. The proverb's meaning is similar to the phrases, "you can't have it both ways" and "you can't have the best of both worlds.")

So 30 minutes before the strike of midnight, I was standing next to a guy friend, who just the other night we were comparing situations. You see, he has a Right Now Girl and couldn't be with her that evening either. So perfect. He asked, "So since we can't be with 'them', shall we then kiss at midnight?"  So we did. And it was sweet. Of course my best bud got a smooch from me as well... its all about passing around the love!

I did try my best to fulfill both of my desires for the evening. The first few hours were spent at the house party, then around 1:00am we biked to Right Now Guys apartment since he was having a get together. (Thank goodness is was in the same area!) I wasn't there at midnight, but I did show up. So I know that counts for something. Just seeing the smile on his face when I walked in, has started this new year out beautifully!

Happy New Year to everyone!
May each of you have a great year filled with enjoying the moment that you are having RIGHT now!

Missing Him

[written by kristin] Before an event tends to happen that I am not looking forward to, I tend to torture myself with dread even before it has occurred. Not good. Like some Sunday nights, instead of enjoying the evening, I dread that it is the last of the weekend. So here I am again, pre-dreading. I am sad and melancholy because a man that I love is moving. But of course, not for a few weeks.
